During the Southern Song Dynasty, the former magistrate of Tonggu County used the"River God" as a pretext to secretly kidnap children for personal gain. The people were panicked and convinced that using children to sacrifice to the"River God" could quell disasters. Song Ci was ordered to come to Tonggu and repeatedly stated to the people that offering sacrifices to the river god was pure nonsense, and promised that the truth would be found out. His arrival made the old magistrate feel threatened. At the instigation of the old county magistrate, his followers worshipped Song Ci and secretly oppressed him, attempting to end Song Ci unknowingly. When wave after wave of danger befell Song Ci, the children were still missing, which caused the people to lose trust in Song Ci and forced Song Ci to quickly sacrifice to the River God. Under pressure from various sources, Song Ci meticulously investigated and used his superb forensic techniques to make the corpse"speak up", gradually identifying the real culprit and discovering the huge conspiracy behind it.
